TROUT STOCKING EVENT COVERAGE
A good time was had by many on Saturday (March 5th, 2005) as we celebrated the Pre-Season Trout Stocking in Volant, PA.

Plenty of people came early, brought their cameras and "made a day of it"... including shopping at the local merchants, shopping at the nearby Prime Outlet Mall in Grove City, and the Annual Volunteer Firefighter's "all you can eat" Sausage and Pancake Breakfast served all day long. The local Amish community were also selling hand-made crafts, baked goods, kettle cooked donuts, and kettle pop corn.

In addition to the "Trout Stocking" activities going on around town, all of the Volant merchants provided guests with the "red carpet" treatment.

Later in the afternoon, we raffled off an Orvis fly rod valued at $575.

Barry walked away with an 8'4'', Orvis T3 843, Mid-Flex 8.0, 3 Weight, 2 5/8oz..

The Pennsylvania Fish Commission arrived to stock the waters of Neshannock Creek at approximately 1:00 PM. In addition to the large number of trout (2,000+) the Fish Commission provided for the 2.7 mile regulated stretch from the Volant Dam above the shop to the Covered Bridge down stream, the Neshannock Creek Fly Shop also stocked the same section of the creek on Saturday, March 12th with "Lunker Trout".

(The term "Lunker Trout" refers to large trout anywhere from 16 inches to 8 pounds. The Fly Shop's stocking was originally scheduled for March 5th, but was delayed due to water conditions.)
